My Life - My Blog - My Breakthrough...

Why Blog?

Well, I am getting pretty comfortable with this "being open" stuff. So I thought I would start explaining a few things. The fact about my blog is this - I started my blog to give my clients a way to see their pictures early and to add narrative about their photo shoots. It has slowly turned into much more than that...at least for me.

I grew up with 1 brother and 5 sisters (see the Knight Clan below). We all shared one bathroom and doubled or tripled up on bedrooms! So much for privacy! Picture that, all of us trying to get ready in the morning for school - one shower!?! And don't even think that you were the only one sneaking to the kitchen in the dark for a late night snack...you were up against 8 other people in the house with the same idea. You'd bump into 2 or 3 people on the way back to your room. Needless to say, I never wanted to keep personal letters or a diary in my room (or the house for that matter).

Trust me, I'll tie this all together.

I have always had insecurities about writing. Not publically, but privately. I always felt that if I was open and honest with myself in writing that someone would violate my privacy...by reading my innermost thoughts...and then using this same information against me. Fear of humiliation I guess. So for my entire life, I have been opposed to keeping a diary.

It wasn't until the beginning of this year that I discovered the concept of a blog. What made me most comfortable with sharing my thoughts and feelings were my readers. I have "you" to thank. Since I usually work late...I have ideas all the time. Some of these ideas just happen to pop up around 2 AM during the middle of an editing session. My blog has been the perfect place to jot these ideas down. Well, what do you know? After I post an entry, I usually get responses right back within minutes! I will have to admit, I do not always publish all of my readers' comments and some of you blog readers email me directly. But I will tell you this, all of you have been a great inspiration to me. Encouraging me to press on and sharing your similar experiences. It's great!

Out of 55 posts, I have received only 2 bad comments. However, I have learned to take all criticism constructively...even the harshest of words. I have learned to sometimes detach the emotion from a situation and look at things rationally. I ask myself, what can I learn from this?

You folks (yes I am "southern") have helped me to grow in ways that were unimaginable to me. Now I am not ashamed to share any of my thoughts and feelings. Heck, they are now public to millions of people. How is that for a diary? Thanks for helping me to speak my mind and thanks for not being judgmental. So now you know..my blog is as much for me as it is for you..

One day, I hope to print all of my blog entries, put them in a book and hand them to my kids as a gift. Then hopefully they will get a glimpse into dad's life - my accomplishments, hopes, dreams, wishes, failures, successes...

See, I believe that we should all have the notion to improve upon the next generation. Not just economically...but also in our children's spirituality, social consciousness, health, education...you name it. It's our God-given responsibility to do so.

I speak with parents all the time who ask me...how can I truly reconnect with my children? I tell the parents that I think the first step is to stop acting like they themselves have never experienced some of the same issues their children are facing! I believe it is important to sometimes show children your vulnerabilities so that they can understand that no one is perfect. Not even You. If you consider yourself to be perfect then read the biblical story about Elijah or Enoch and decide if you can take the same trip...

O.K. enough for now, I think I am starting to preach!! And I just wanted to talk about why I blog...

There you have it - My Life - My Blog - What a breakthrough!!!

p.s. A great big shout out to my long lost friend from Huntsville, Tiarra! I'm looking forward to great things from you young lady!

Ross I was truly inspired by your sentiments on life and your guts to share it. I do plan to get married one day and would love to have someone with your passion capture that memorable event. Continue to be positive and receive all that God has purposed for your life.

You have made my day! God has so blessed and inspired me with your words and your appreciation for your own life; past , present and future. I am humbled by the way you have taken what you have been given and how it is that you are beautifying and changing the reality of life-one "click" at a time. I was linked to your site by the Gray engagement, Remember the Ritz, Awesome!

You have a wonderful website and the pictures are amazing. Continue to strive for excellence in all that you do. You never know who is watching you. Meaning you are giving someone hope that they can also be an entrepeneur; in additon, being a positive role model. Be blessed and a blessing.

Your work is breath taking. You could be the next big up and coming director of movies and films. Very talented, tasteful, so real you could reach on and touch the moment in each and every picture taken. A truly blessed young man. I tip my hat off to you. God bless you and every thing you do.

Repectfully,

"Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it." - Goethe

Your talent is phenomenal. Your spirit is warm. Your pictures, which capture moments and frame time into place, evoke strong and delicate emotions as well as all emotions in between. Your innermost thoughts, which you've dared to air in a place for all to experience, are powerful. You are an inspiration. Continue to dream. But more importantly, continue to take bold steps in the direction of fulfilment.

Best,
Cornelia

Hi,
You are an excellent photographer and I want you to know that being blessed is an awesome thing. I have lost everything in Hurricane Katrina and I still know that I am blessed after that event. I have lost photos that were dear to me, especially our wedding and children's birth. Still trying to get back to the way thigs were. Your gift of memories for anyone is amazing. Continue to strive to be the best.

Blogging is therapeutic. I am glad you are letting yourself go!

Enjoy yourself and the haters are just that haters.

Take them as they are and don't take it personally. Some people just like beating up on others because it makes them feel superior. Crazy logic but you know we all have issues in some shape or form!

I live in New Jersey and someone sent me the segment of Ross and Williams' engagement. You truly captured essence. Who sings the song that you used? That song was so powerful. Keep up the good work.

I friend sent me a link to the Gray engagement, Remember the Ritz. I forwarded the link to several of my friends. You told that story so well that I felt like I was there. Who sings the song you used for the slide show? It was perfect. May God continue to bless you and enlarge your territory. Grace and Peace!

Mr. Knight,

I too, have received a link to the Gray proposal, and went on to look you up and review your website and blog. I truly appreciated the story you told with the pictures. When I am so blessed to get married, I will look you up. I have never ever seen so many beautiful shots, with good lighting, capturing all moments from the major to the most minute one, capturing all the fine details in order, etc. The Gray slideshow, as well as the other on the website, are all just BEAUTIFUL.

May GOD continually bless you, may you stay humble and remember his blessings (as you recorded on the blog), and may you prosper and be in health as the BIBLE says.

P.S. You have a really nice looking family. Did you boys ever feel so left out with so many girls? I always wanted a brother but unfortunately, I have 6 sisters.

I have long loved photography and all the emotions it envokes out of people. Looking back at captured moments that are often missed or long forgotten is the one thing that I can say I envey from a celebrities lifestyle. Their lives are chronicled and remembered until the end of time. I often look back at pictures I have taken of everyone especially my children and miss not being captured in any. You have a wonderful gift and inspire me to record the life of others through pictures.

God bless you and may God continue to give you the vision to see all things can be and are beautiful.
