KNIGHT meets Pencilworx - Vision and Mission at Work

Wednesday, September 26, 2007

"Remove your glasses (physical or mental) and look beyond yourself to see with your spiritual vision. You may be surprised how clear your mission truly becomes." - words by KNIGHT

That's not what LaVon Lewis (pencilworx.com) asked me to take pictures of about a month ago when we sat down for lunch to meet about his upcoming corporate portrait session. The statement came to me at about 10:45 AM yesterday as we were ready to enter the second phase of his photo shoot. A self-proclaimed corporate identity/branding guru, LaVon has worked with several major companies in the U.S. and won countless awards for his portfolio of work. When we first met, I saw something amazing in him. Something I saw in myself. Our meeting reached a point where we could no longer find the words to describe the visions we had for future projects. Our hands raced to keep up with our minds as we transcribed ideas on paper.

So as I photographed him on yesterday, the words at the top of this blog entry resounded over and over again, however, the sky was overcast and the humidity was high. I even folded up my external light and stand and put them away opting for natural light instead. I was totally ready to call it quits if a single drop of rain fell from above. Again, the words whisked through my mind. Suddenly, the sun casts an amazing tunnel of light down the deserted alley where we were shooting. Call it luck, call it a dream, I call it the Creator at work. Vision and Mission unfolded right before our eyes.

Here are a few images from the shoot below.

Damon and Chrishonda - A Fairytale Come True!

Monday, September 24, 2007

First, did I spell fairytale correctly??

Ok, anyways..I had the esteemed privilege to shoot the wedding of Damon and Chrishonda. They have been together ever since they were youngsters out in the country. Our first encounter was when I shot their son's 1st birthday at their home. After getting to know the family it was a natural fit to continue on with the wedding.

So I ventured out to the country in South Carolina with the goal of capturing images of clear blue skies and the love this couple has shared for so long. The wedding was beautiful, the bride was stunning, the groom was debonair, and the sunrise and sunset was amazing. We all had a ball and thanks to my handy GPS system I only got lost once.

Many of my readers ask me all the time - what is my favorite part of the wedding to shoot? You'll be able to answer that question after viewing the pictures below...

Congrats to Damon and Chrishonda!!!

Natural Light - Beauty Revealed!

Thursday, September 20, 2007

Who says that Wedding Photography is not art! I certainly don't. The majority of the photographs below from a recent wedding were captured with natural light only. I love using natural light because it presents a challenge. You have to find a way to work with light temperatures, directional light, and reflective light. Working in the studio can be fun, however, I find location lighting to be my nitch!

Check out some photos from a recent wedding I shot. Rosa and I have known each other for a few years. We first met in a development program at my previous full-time job. I felt honored when she asked me to shoot her wedding. I knew after the engagement pictures that Baron and Rosa would have wonderful wedding photos also!

Congratulations to you two!!
