It's My Birthday and I'll Eat If I Want To

Wednesday, November 28, 2007

My nephew celebrated his first birthday during Thanksgiving this year. It was amazing to see how much he has grown and how much he can eat! Everyone knows how I promote education for children, so Uncle Ross and Aunt Future Mrs. KNIGHT got him a few books to practice his soon to come first words.

After reading for a while he threw the book down and went straight for the cake.

He's a natural in font of the camera. Who was having the most fun here?

Proud parents reclaim their son.

Steve and Demetria - The Twinkle in Our Eyes

Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Recently I shot an engagement session for Steve and Demetria at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Wow is that place amazing! I arrived an hour early to take a self guided tour.

It was a bit cold during this shoot so I had the couple to keep their jackets handy. To warm and loosen them up, I had the couple recite some very interesting vows after me. Now that was hilarious if I must say so myself! In no time I had Steve and Demtria out of their shells and completely focused on one another. I love capturing the special twinkle in the eyes of lovers. It is something that is unique to each couple.

In the images below, you will be sure to see the love and affection Steve and Demetria share. I am looking forward to shooting their wedding next year to capture more of their intimate moments.

Additional - I'd like to send a big thanks to my lead assistant for the shoot - my future father-in-law. He has supported my passion for photography over the past 3 years and it means the world to me. This is the first shoot of mine he has attended and he did a great job getting lenses and helping during light and composition research. I love you man!!

For Mitch and Keesha, Love Finally Comes Full Circle

Monday, November 26, 2007

Click here to see the slide show.

For Mitch and Keesha love has come full circle. The two met in grade school and were best friends growing up. Some years later, their love has proved to have no boundaries, borders, or barriers. It has stood the test of time.

Both Mitch and Keesha are native to the island of Anguilla; however, for college they decided to come to the States and go their separate ways. Since then, Keesha has lived in more places than I have traveled and Mitch has had enough life experiences to easily have a book or feature film written about his triumphs. Both kept a promise to return to Anguilla at some point and give back to the island they love so much. And that is exactly what they did. Once returning home, the two picked up exactly where they left off!!!

Mitch decided to propose to Keesha in New York City. He was able to diguise his master plan as his birthday celebration. Mitch planned an awesome day in the city and he proposed over an intimate dinner at The Lowell Hotel. I was completely touched listening to their stories throughout the day. Most of you know that I have the best time interviewing my clients during shoots.

Congrats to Mitch and Keesha!!!

KNIGHT photo credit on Oprah Winfrey Book Club Newsletter

Thursday, November 15, 2007

Just thought I would share this with everyone. Oprah's book club is a great way to find wonderful books to read. I received the most recent book, The Pillars of the Earth, by Ken Follett, at the show on Wednesday.

In the newsletter that went out to Oprah Book Club Subscribers, I received a photo credit! See below.

KNIGHT goes to Oprah!

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

It's a bit colder in Chicago than it is in Atlanta. I discovered that this morning while catching the train to the Oprah Winfrey Show at 5:30 AM. That didn't deter me or my iPhone (sorry for the resolution) from taking a few images before entering the studio. The show was amazing and Oprah was so personable. It was an honor to be there.

Be sure to check out the love stories tab on her website to see one of my images from the Gray/Williams proposal!

Two is Always Better Than One....Terald and Tamara....@ Two Urban Licks

Sunday, November 4, 2007

Click here to view the slide show.

It was so much fun to shoot the engagement of Terald and Tamara. Terald (whom I refer to as Mr. Real Estate) and Tamara (Ms. Nutrition Awareness) got engaged at Two Urban Licks on October 19th. For Tamara, this was all a grand surprise! The restaurant was the location of the couple's first date.

When Terald first contacted me I could hear the excitement in his voice. He wanted to do something special and had the plan already in motion. I knew that I could bring that vision to reality and add a few special touches of my own.

Two weeks before the shoot, I did about 3 hours of research to get the lighting on this job just right. I was metering and positioning tables (restaurants are used to me completely changing the layout of their space by now), questioning management, making friends with the bar tenders, and even giving the valets an extra tips so that they would remember me come two weeks later (this paid off on the date of the shoot big time). Its always nice to be able to pick where your subjects will be positioned, so I made sure to reserve a two-seater right under a light. The table was a bit secluded from the general restaurant crowd but still open enough to cause no suspicion from Tamara.

Problem: The night of the shoot timing was a bit off and because of the chance for rain the restaurant management decided to close the sky lights...?? O.K.

Solution: So I had to improvise. I asked for a few extra candles, moved the table once again before T & T arrived, and downed two glasses of water to hydrate after running in and outside about 122 times. Yes 122.

All this for nothing. No flash....no light...no problem....the extra light that I needed came directly from Terald and Tamara. They were both beaming from the moment they walked through the restaurant door. Tamara had no idea I was there of course and my assistant (Brandi) posed as she was shooting a birthday party (shout out to Kacie - 18 at last!). In the end, the proposal went just as planned and Tamara was really caught by surprise. Her smile and his sincerity made this occasion one to remember.

Behind the scenes info: Since Tamara happens to know me, I had on a worn Polo cap for disguise! Once I even had my camera shooting remotely from on top of the bar. Now how's that? It was a hoot shooting since most people in the restaurant figured something special was about to happen and kept ordering appetizers while watching me plan the shoot two hours before T & T arrived. Once Terald got down on bended knee half the place held their breath and then started clapping uncontrollably!

Congratulations to Terald and Tamara! I can't wait for the wedding.

Halloween Fun!

Friday, November 2, 2007

For Halloween we stopped by the house of our friends Mark and Erin Adams, two photographers in Atlanta. It is really funny when you get several photographers together and we all act up for the camera. The craziest thing about the night was that at least three people dressed up as Mark (with his signature beard). And I actually thought they were him!!??? Shows you how much I was paying attention to details.

Thanks for a great time Mark and Erin!
