The Power of Prayer

Sunday, July 6, 2008

I'm in New York now and I will shoot a wedding in about 5 hours. Before every wedding that I document I look for morning inspiration to fuel me throughout the day. My inspiration this time comes from a book that I received from my cousin as a gift during my wedding. The book is The Power of a Praying Husband by Stormie Omartian. I started reading the book on the plane and it really helped me to think more about my position in my family and what that means. I feel like my prayers have become somewhat stagnant as of late but reading just the first two chapters of this book I found even more to pray about. I am usually praying for other people, my family, and the business. This book made me think more about how I need to pray about myself first, the renewing of my mind, body, spirit, and thoughts before I move on to others. Confessing my faults and starting with a clean slate. If you are not strong yourself it is difficult to take on the challenges of others. Growing up I heard a lot of this in church, I even hear it now from Sunday to Sunday but positive reinforcement is always a great way to keep something fresh in your mind. You can do so many things out of habit or training but it is so much more rewarding when you see the light and figure out how your actions and/or sacrifice can bless you and others.

Oh yeah, by the way, there is also a book called: The Power of a Praying Wife. The Dr. Mrs. is currently reading that one although I think she is ahead of me by about five chapters...I better get it together and quick!

I'm off to shoot! I went to see the church and reception site yesterday and I am so excited to shoot in such beautiful places. I'll post images later.

Kudos to you both for being proactive in nurturing your marriage relationship! I've read Power of a Praying Woman by the same author, so I know that you're receiving a wealth of knowledge on prayer. I am continually inspired by your work and your relationship. God bless you both!! Kendra G.

Amen brother! Great words...while praying for others is a very noble and selfless thing to do, I too believe it is much more important to first pray for self to have the strength, fortitude and sustainability to continue to pray for others. I believe that there has to be just a tad bit of 'selfishness' when it comes to our relationship with our Creator; after all, it is without question, THE relationship that serves as the basis for all of our other relationships. Can I get an AMEN?

Hello, it's good to be reminded of a good book I read before and gave the one your reading to my husband during a rough time a few years ago. Also, an excellent book for women, married or single, is Power of a Praying Woman.
Thanks for sharing,
