Umair + Laika = By Day and By Night (KNIGHT)

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

You never know what can happen while at the airport. Over a year and a half ago I was attending a conference in Vegas just before releasing my second website and the Ritz Carlton proposal slideshow. My cell phone was out of power but I needed to call my girlfriend (Brandi). Enter Laika. Laika and I were on the same plane headed back to Atlanta and she offered to let me charge my phone with her laptop. We both talked for a while and learned that we had so much in common. She told me that she would be getting married soon and after viewing some of my images I gave her a card to call me when the date was set.

Well now its that time for her to tie the knot! I met Umair during the shoot and he's really down to earth and a lot of fun, just like his soon to be wife. We had non-stop laughter during this shoot and I caught myself smiling more than shooting sometimes.

Since the seasons have changed the sun goes down much earlier. We set the shoot for late evening and the sun set before we reached the second location. Not to worry, things worked out perfectly. We ended the evening in the location of their first date and first kiss overlooking Midtown Atlanta.

Umair and Laika will marry this fall during a 3-day intricate traditional Pakastani ceremony.

For Beginning Photographers: Leave your shutter open a little longer at night to burn in a little ambient light along with the flash exposure.

The pics are absolutely FAB!- My faves include the one with the 2 birds on the ledge and one of the last shots where both Umair and Lakai are looking out and there is a light in the back-it almost looks like the son. Stunning! Tum dono ko mubarak aur bahut kushiyan mile-)

Hi Ross! Thanks for taking such amazing pictures. Umair and I had sooo much fun taking our engagement pictures. I don't remember why we were laughing so much....I bet I was making fun of Umair.

The sepia duck shots are too cute! The park was really nice...I'm so glad we decided to do that last minute. Umair and I are looking forward to you capturing the full three days of our wedding events. I wish I could fly you to Pakistan for my reception there in March. I'm going to run it by my in-laws to see what they decide :-)

Dude....I must admit that I felt a little guilty about witnessing this first hand, but I got over that real quick. It was a blast to see you in action and to assist you last weekend. Keep up the magnificent work brother!!! One question though...how did you manage to light this couple in the dark of the night so softly and evenly....how in the world did you accomplish that...LOL?
