Here is a message from Brandi:
June 2009 marked the 20th anniversary of my mother’s death due to breast cancer. As many people know, I am a HUGE advocate for breast cancer education and awareness. This year, I am a part of something really exciting!!
About a year ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Karen Neely, the founder of Triple Pink Foundation. Triple Pink was created to increase awareness about triple negative breast cancers, one of the most aggressive forms of breast cancer. This type of breast cancer primarily affects young women under the age of 40. However, African-American women appear to be disproportionately affected. As a survivor, Karen started Triple Pink to celebrate the legacy of survival as well as to encourage young women to become more responsible for their own health.
To kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, I am working with the Triple Pink Foundation for their "We Want a Cure - Wii Game Tournament Fundraiser" (www.wewantacure.org) on September 30, 2009. The event will be held at Straits Restaurant in Midtown Atlanta. Supporters can come out for music, food and of course, to get their game on with the Wii!! There is also a silent auction and a raffle for two round-trip AirTran airline tickets to anywhere in the continental US.
I’m really excited about this event! I know it’s going to be a success, but most of all, I just want people to be more aware of this disease. We will win this battle….
