Love is All Around Me by Ross Oscar Knight

Sunday, February 14, 2010

She opened her eyes, she looked at me, she smiled, and then she grabbed my thumb. I fell in love!

I met my best friend in the 6th grade while attending a magnet middle school program. It wasn't all fun and games during our first encounter. I remember that we were in Homeroom and the role was being called. I was used to having the honor of hearing "Knight" only once. Just then, Mrs. Towns said "Josh Knight.....Ross Knight." I almost answered "yes" for the wrong person. I peered out of the corner of my eye. What in the world was this guy doing ruining my experience?!

Josh, whom I still sometimes affectionately refer to as Jay, has been one of the single most influential people in my life. Hands down, without a doubt in my mind. No matter how near or far we are from each other, the love I have for this man extends beyond friendship. He is my brother. When we were kids we made up our own language and hand shake. We've been through countless crushes, breakups, family issues, fights, business ventures, sleepless nights, financial problems, health concerns and just about anything else you can think of. We were college roommates and saw each other through joining frats. We even learned to cut hair together and ran a barbershop out of our dorm's bathroom. I was the best man at his wedding and he was the best man at my wedding. If it wasn't for our outside appearance some people would think we were twins.

We're just the same now as we were 20 years ago except that we both have less hair! 2 weeks ago Josh and his wife Catrina gave birth to their first child after 6 years of marriage. At the baby shower they asked Brandi and I to be the Godparents of Peyton. My heart swelled with joy as it does now typing this blog entry. We visited the hospital to see Peyton for the first time. She is a precious angel. I see now that no matter what, a baby that you truly love can make your finger press the shutter regardless of the right lighting conditions or how many of the same shots you've already taken.

Here's a few pictures of Josh and I going gah gah over the baby. There is no way that time nor space will ever break the bond that I share with my brother and now this baby girl. A true blessing from God. Love is all around me...

Sunny Bridal Session by Ross Oscar Knight | Behind the Scenes in Midtown

Sunny Bridal Session by Ross Oscar Knight from Ross Oscar Knight Photography on Vimeo.

I get questions all the time about what I am thinking before I go out and photograph a subject. This is the first video I recorded with my Canon 5DMkII and edited in iMovie. It was a cold sunny Sunday morning and I decided to get adventurous and have my wife take some footage of me shooting. To my surprise I look larger on this video than I do in the mirror. Anyways, sorry about all of the umm's (18 total) and choppy transitions throughout the recording. I am a photographer but I have so much to learn about video recording and production. I promise to get better with practice. Enjoy!

W Hotel Bridal Session by Ross Oscar Knight | Atlanta Preview

Monday, February 8, 2010

Today while everyone was preparing for the Super Bowl I was hustling on Facebook to find a bird cage veil for Lori's bridal session at the W Hotel. Luckily her knight in shining armour, Paul, dashed home to pick up the accessory before we began shooting. This is a small preview of the shoot.

fyi...I made it home 10 minutes before the Super Bowl started!

Shehzad + Nehal | Atlanta, GA - Nikah

Saturday, February 6, 2010

I promised part 2 of Shehzad and Nehal's wedding a few weeks ago. If you missed part 1 click here. For the Nikah Ceremony we were at the Westin in Buckhead which I would recommend if you are looking for an awesome venue with lots of space. Ragini Patel of Instyle Weddings, Nadira Merali of Envi Events and Bari Schlam of the Westin did a wonderful job with the decor and coordination of the evening. Brandi and I were really looking forward to the traditional food so we took turns from shooting to savor all the spicy goodness! Enjoy the images and I'll blog you later.
