When Mountains (Mòn) End and Clear Skies (Syèl) Begin - A Haitian Sunrise with Monsieur Joseph

Monday, March 25, 2013

While I was in Haiti last week, I woke up every morning by 5:30 AM to catch the sun as it rose over the horizon. Daily, I contemplated the mountains in my life and prayed for deliverance and peace. On this day I felt a breakthrough to the heavens like the opening in the clouds. I sang praises out loud and captured the moment with my camera.

I heard someone behind me as I was singing.  It was Monsieur Joseph. I would see him nearly three times a day while I was walking around the mountain. He would announce his presence with a resounding "Ahem, Ahem, Ahem" and then blow into his conch shell with all of the breath in his lungs. The sound of his horn became synonymous with greetings, meal times, and laughter.

This day was different. Its as if he bid the sun to rise with the sound of blowing his horn. It was a God wink!

What's Love Got to Do With It? 5 Years Later...

Saturday, March 9, 2013

Almost 10 years ago a woman agreed to take a car ride with me and listen to my crazy ideas. I drove her in and out of unfinished neighborhoods and then around the urban inner city of Atlanta. I'm more comfortable talking about my future when I can see a glimpse of my past. Along the ride I explained my plan to buy a car/home, to pay off my debt, to leave my engineering job, and to become an international photographer. My dreams were BIG for such a short time and I was praying for direction. One thing I was missing was a companion.

Today, Brandi and I celebrate 5 years of marriage. I don't think either one of us could have really envisioned the success and challenges we would face during this time. The plan I described to her all those years ago came to pass! Unfortunately, I've made mistakes and lost my focus. I've struggled and been injured. I've had to recalibrate my spiritual life. Through it all, Brandi has still been here standing by my side. She's walked with me every step of the way. I'm learning day by day what it means to be committed in marriage and to be joined by God's favor and love.

Thanks babe for your love and appreciation. Thanks for your time and attention. Thanks for staying with me through the thick and thin. And thanks for our precious gift, Addison. I'm not sure how you become more beautiful every day, but you do. I love you!

Special Announcement: Tara Nicole debuts as KNIGHT Children Photographer

Tuesday, March 5, 2013

After a year of training Tara Nicole is now leading our KNIGHT Children's Photography division. Tara attended my 2010 Photography Workshop in Atlanta and became my studio manager last year. I have been watching her growth and development as a photographer like a hawk. She is ready to soar on her own!

Just in time for Easter and Spring, Tara Nicole is offering a limited number of sessions to photograph your little ones (newborns to 12 years old). For $150, you can book a 1-hour session with Tara at our studio or on location. For more information, email us at: info@rossoscarknight.com

Working as Ross' studio manager has given me the privilege of studying under one of the most talented photographers of our time! I've assisted him on countless photo sessions and weddings, and am now venturing out on my own. My first paid session as a professional photographer was a 1-year-old's birthday party, and it's only right that I return to my roots!

I absolutely love photographing children! Children are the most camera unaware subjects and have no problem letting their true personalities shine. I've observed children for years as a past YMCA camp counselor, acting instructor and youth ministry leader. In most of these roles, I always had a camera with me. I've found that there's no greater joy than capturing a moment in time in a child's life that a parent cherishes forever. Babies turn into teenagers almost overnight, and my goal is to help you remember the moments that count most.
