Pardon My Abruptness but Anna Beth is Married!!!

Monday, July 27, 2009

You'll have to pardon my abruptness at 3 AM but I have to brag on my studio manager, Anna Beth, for just a sec. I know that she will be boarding a flight in a few hours on the way to her honeymoon. Brandi and I made it back from Savannah today after shooting Anna's wedding Saturday and I want her to know how absolutely stunning she was in her wedding dress. Talk about Sassy....that's not the word....Diva.....nope....this woman was totally captivating and attracting attention everywhere she walked. Anna and I had the photos timed to a science so I shot more portraits in half an hour than I typically shoot in two. I took the top three photos below within minutes of Anna meeting her dad to walk down the aisle. During the ceremony and reception I had to hold it together. I was shooting my little heart out like a proud parent. Between Brandi, Lauren (our intern), and I we shot over 4,000 images! This upcoming blog post and slide show is going to be monstrous. Anyways, enough writing for now. Check out the pics and give Anna Beth...now Anna B. Kinchen a shout out!

To Ashley (Anna's new husband): It was awesome shooting with you too man. Take care of our girl and we'll see the two of you when you get back.

Fred + Tia | Destin, FL - It's For Real (Part II)

Monday, July 20, 2009

Here are more photos from Fred and Tia's wedding I shot back in May (Part I here). My 200mm f2.0 lens really came in handy during this shoot. I will have to admit that my arm got a nice workout from the extra weight though.

The lighting at the reception was just abut the most creative I have ever seen. Orange, purple, green, red, blue...it just all really worked together and we used all of that lighting to our advantage when shooting to capture the mood. Both adults and kids partied until the late night and I even jumped on the dance floor for a few steps!

One of the key highlights was the bride showing everyone how to capture the spotlight. Check out some of her moves in the pics below.

KNIGHT + Anthony Consulting + Leadership + Building Community

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

The pictures below remind me of an interesting time period in my life - college. Recently, I skipped my every two week routine of cutting my own hair to visit an old barber friend that I have known since 1997. The experience really brought back some good and bad memories. If you know anything about a barbershop or a hair salon then you know that when it comes to conversation - anything goes. Lauren (our intern) came along with me for the ride because I promised that I was going to give her a true experience this summer not just editing and shooting in the office. To date, her internship has been like a reality show starring (drum roll please) Ross Oscar Knight. I'm sure she will write a tell all book one day and shame me for good. So will Anna Beth. Anyways, back to the barbershop. While sitting in the chair I was contemplating personal responsibility. If you read my post, 30 Things About Me, back in April then you know that I cut hair in the bathroom dorms to get through school. Once I lost my scholarship from NASA at Georgia Tech, taking control of my life and academic survival became a very serious obligation.

I've been part of a few leadership programs in the past and I have also held my fair share of leadership positions. So when I was first contacted through Facebook by Erin Anthony (The Anthony Group) about her upcoming book (Leadership Rockstars), it was my thought that she would interview me about my photography business. What I didn't know was that she had quite a different spin on the subject of leadership. Erin and her husband are active in educational consulting and she wanted to speak with me about how my former collegiate leadership roles have contributed to my success today. During the interview we spoke candidly about the attributes and challenges of a leader and how college students should prepare for their future. One story that I related to Erin was about the barbershop and cutting hair in those smelly dormitory bathrooms to make enough money for food, gas, books, and tuition. Yesterday as I was browsing the web I noticed that Erin did a post about our interview and I am so humbled by her comments.

The PURPOSE of my company is to Build Community Through Photography. The VISION of my company is "...the key is to love what you see."

I decided to contribute my story to the Anthony Leadership Book because Adrian and Erin are a wonderful couple with a dynamic vision. I feel they are Building Community and I also Love What I See as I have learned more about them through the web. Check out their site some time and be inspired!

Blog you later...

KNIGHT + The Runaway Bride - Coming October 2009

Monday, July 13, 2009

Wondering why this bride picked up her dress, ran through the park, fell asleep and then woke up smiling. It must be the antique red couch I found and purchased last week, then single-handedly carried out to the dock, right?

Wrong!

This bridal session certainly surpasses all others and there is a story behind the madness. Stay tuned...

Fred + Tia | Destin, FL - It's For Real (Part I)

Friday, July 10, 2009

Ever since shooting Fred and Tia's engagement session in Pensacola (March 2009) I had been anticipating photographing their wedding in Destin two months later. I just really enjoyed the time spent getting to know the couple and their unique story. Turns out, I didn't have to wait too long for the big day because May 23rd (also my sister's birthday) rolled around faster than I could blink. We arrived in Florida the Friday before the wedding just in time to hear the changes to the original layout of the ceremony. Everyone was in a delightful mood and I spent a good while speaking with Fred's mom about how it was time to let go.

Although we produced an album from the engagement session and printed a huge canvas for guests to sign at the welcome reception, I couldn't help but be surprised to see my images on display. It was like looking in a mirror (weird!) as I stood in front of the table and the easel. Anyways, the ceremony and reception was truly one-of-a-kind. Fred and Tia sought ways to make their wedding resemble so many things they liked. Instead of typing them all I will let you review the images from the next two posts and you'll see for yourself. Enjoy!
