How Can I Be This Blessed - Birthday Reflections at 34 by Ross Oscar Knight

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

I woke up this morning and asked myself one simple question: How can I be this blessed?

Before I could finish the thought I was brushed by the wet nose of my dog, Bauer, and my ear was being pulled sharply by my daughter, Addison. I peered my eyes open to see my wife in the background pacing back and forth across our hardwoods getting ready for work. I snapped out of my trance to embrace the blessings right before my eyes.

A year ago I was trying to figure out how to strengthen my relationship with God, how to be a more supportive husband, and how I would respond to fatherhood. There was some instability in my goals. There still is. That's life. I realize that I will have to work at these things for the rest of my life.

One thing is for sure: I WILL NO LONGER LET PAST FAILURES IMPEDE MY FUTURE PROGRESS.

This is my life. This is my moment. This is my time. Time to be all that God has called me to be. I am too blessed to sit idle and simply ponder possibilities. I speak it into existence now. The next year of my life will be divinely inspired and I will revel in His glory and His word.

Amen.

Spring Love by Ross Oscar Knight

Robert and Brandi @ Midtown Atlanta

Just before heading to the Colts training camp, Robert and Brandi spent time with me to photograph their engagement session. We took a casual stroll through the park and talked about everything from dogs to babies to cars. I'm not sure who laughed more, them or me. I found Robert to be entirely endearing of Brandi and every chance I had to capture the look on his face adoring her, I took it.

They'll be getting married later this year and I can't wait to see the fab dress Brandi talked about!

Judy's Undressed - From the Outside Looking In by Ross Oscar Knight

Saturday, April 20, 2013

I stayed up late last night preparing for the open shoot I am hosting today. Judy was my muse while I set up and tested the lights. Why would I host a free shoot for 200+ people? Because it feels good helping out a friend, it feels good giving back to the community, and it feels good honoring my God-given gift of connecting with people.

Mohawk Monday - Addy Investigates How She Earned Her Stripes

Monday, April 8, 2013

This morning I did Addison's hair. She was handed to me with this outfit and she decided to investigate.

Me: Addison, look at daddy so I can take your picture. Look this way.

Addy: No daddy! Wait. I think my body has been taken over by stripes! I think there are aliens living in our house!

Me: Its your outfit. The stripes are not permanent.

Addy: I'm confused. Aren't I cute enough without these things. What about my hair. Who did that?

Me: Well...

Addy: I need to investigate this situation.

Me: Oh, its ok baby. Let's go to school now. I took your picture already.

Addy: It was you wasn't it? You did this to me. You put these stripes on my body and brushed my hair into a mohawk!

Me: But baby, you are so cute! I did your hair. Those stripes came from your mother...

Addy: She wouldn't do this. I know. I think I know. Someone has to pay for this.

Me: Who me?

Addy: There will be no sleep for YOU, MOMMY, or BAUER tonight. Now if only I could stand up and get to you before you move away.

Me: I do love you!

Addy: Yeah, yeah. I'm getting older now and this sweet talk is doing the same.

Ross Oscar Knight Haiti Exhibit Toured by International Visitors to Emory University

Wednesday, April 3, 2013

Last week international visitors from Comoros, Egypt, Kenya, Malaysia, Nepal, Nigeria, Russia and Venezuela toured my Beauty in the Face of Destruction (post earthquake Haiti) exhibit at Emory University's Center for Ethics. The participants were part of a multi-regional project, The International Visitor Leadership Program, inspiring leadership and civic participation. One of the goals of the project is to examine the concepts of democracy, government and citizenship, and their importance to U.S. civil society. The tour and discussion was led by director of the Arts & Ethics Initiative, Carlton Mackey.

On April 4, 2013 (6:30 PM), Ross Oscar Knight will give an artist talk discussing his photography exhibit and his 2013 return trip to Haiti. Knight has formed a partnership with Community2Community to support the organization's Haiti Restoration and Transformation Pilot Project - School, Road, Forest and Water Initiatives.
