Happy Birthday to the Dr. Mrs. KNIGHT!

Sunday, June 28, 2009

Marrying my wife is literally the best thing that has ever happened to me besides finding God. Today we celebrated Brandi's birthday with friends and family. I promise that I let her eat that cupcake after teasing her for at least 15 minutes...

I love you babe! I thank God for your life and I look forward to us growing old together and celebrating our birthdays for the rest of our lives.

Andrew + Nancy | Castleberry Hills Art District

Thursday, June 25, 2009

I met Nancy (niece of NBA player Dikembe Mutombo) at the Four Seasons bridal extravaganza earlier this year and from the time we first spoke I knew that she would be a joy to photograph. Her smile is infectious. Andrew attended our initial consultation at my West Midtown studio and we both connected about our drive to succeed in business and in life. I could tell he was smitten with love from the moment I asked him about the proposal story. Since Nancy's family is from the Congo and Andrew has his roots in Nigeria I decided for the engagement session to give the couple a tour of the Castleberry Hills Art District of Atlanta - my neck of the woods. Its just a stone's throw from where I attended undergrad in the West End at Morehouse. During the shoot we had lively conversation about the joys and challenges of marriage. I'm still a newlywed but I can already give advice about a thing or two. Andrew and Nancy will marry this November so look out for that post before the end of the year.

KNIGHT + Essence Magazine

Thursday, June 18, 2009

I'm back from Jamiaca and still going strong. Thanks to all that sent me emails about being featured on Essence.com. What an honor and a surprise it was when I clicked on the link - Black Book of Wedding Planning!

Hope you are all having a wonderful day. We are planning for our workshops this weekend right now. The opening mixer is tonight. We decided to take a quick break for this snapshot. You'll notice a new face - Lauren - our intern for the summer. She just started this week and has been awesome with helping out. She went to SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) just like Anna Beth. They are turning out some excellent photographers as Lauren and I went on a photojournalism escapade around Atlanta on Tuesday and I reviewed her images.

Ken + Melanie | Montego Bay, Jamaica - Love Messages in the Night

Sunday, June 14, 2009

I've decided to share a few pictures from yesterday that were totally heart touching to me. This has to be the coolest send off I have ever seen! After the ceremony yesterday it became dark within a matter of minutes. At the end of dinner, everyone wrote messages to the couple on miniature hot air balloons. We all walked down to the beach so the family and friends could release the flaming well wishes into the abyss of the Caribbean sky. We all stood and watched as the balloons rose higher and higher until we could not distinguish them from the stars. It was a marvelous display of light.

First Images with my new 5D Mark II!

Thursday, June 11, 2009

I'm in Jamaica now and I am testing out the new 5D Mark II. The camera is remarkable in low light. I had to re-program a few of the buttons to work like my previous cameras. It just seems too hard to break old habits!

The Art of Dunking in San Francisco

Monday, June 8, 2009

We're hanging out in San Francisco and having a great time. Its a bummer that I have lost like every pair of shades I own. Although its breezy and cool the sun is still as bright as ever. I've been concentrating on dunking strawberries with precision while making sure my wife doesn't blow away in the wind or get hit by a trolley car! I've been told I could be an actor with all of the facial expressions I make. Next stop is Napa and then Jamaica.

Jordan + Ritu | Naples, FL - Just Do What You Do Best

Thursday, June 4, 2009

Fact #1 - I've only placed one paid advertisement in a magazine the entire time I have been shooting. That's because I receive over 95% of my business by word of mouth.

Fact #2 - My documentary style was developed as a child when I wanted people to see what I could not explain verbally.

Fact #3 - My passion to document my subjects' true personalities comes from my love for all of God's wonderful creations.

Three weeks ago I was down in Naples to shoot the Indian/American fusion ceremony of Jordan and Ritu. What I really love about this couple is that they chose me to be their wedding photographer...

1. Based on a referral from a friend

2. Based on my documentary style

3. Based on my intense passion

Both Jordan and Ritu made it a clear point to emphasize this during our initial phone conversation and also when I met them in person at the first ceremony (Sangeet).

Not once during my three days in Naples did the couple motion for me to take a single photograph. Instead, they put their entire trust in me and my talent. I can recall Ritu saying - "Just do what you do best! We'll leave you alone." And do my best I did. It is always a joy to shoot for clients that understand my artistry and give me room to be a silent witness as I shoot.

The wedding was at the beautiful Ritz Carlton Resort in Naples. After only 15 - 20 minutes (love this!) of pre-wedding formals with both families, we had to move the ceremony inside because of the rain. The clouds didn't change how ultimately emotional this public union of marriage became. There were tears flowing everywhere. I was most impressed with the set up of the reception. The floral displays were hanging from the ceiling and pin lights were used to illuminate the flowers and the tables. Very intimate and totally unique.

The upcoming slideshow will show you much more about the wedding. For now, I hope you enjoy the pics that I've posted below.

The flower girl was totally cute.
Ritu wore some amazing jewelry. I shot jewelry only shots for like 15 minutes.
Ritu's sisters helped her get ready.
Jordan folding the pocket square just right.
Ritu's sister admiring her as she finished getting ready.
Finishing touches.

Jordan arrived from the golf resort 5 miles away for his formals.
Ritu waiting before she and Jordan meet for the first time.

The first glance.

Ritu won this contest thanks to her brother-in-law.
Ritu's family was able to steal Jordan's shoes first. The negotiation to get them back was hilarious.
This was an amazing reception. The details really do matter.

The candle light was enough to capture shots of some of the guests.. This is Ritu's friend who was with her when she met Jordan for the first time.

Ritu's dad had great moves.
