A School (Escuela) and the Mission on the Island of Roatan Honduras by Ross Oscar Knight

Friday, September 30, 2011

The beauty of these children and the strength of their spirits is crystal clear.

This was notably one of my favorite moments during my mission trip with Roatan Alive. Why? A few of us from the group woke up early one morning to travel to a school. I was beckoned to put my camera down and join a skit. I played the role of "Adam." How cool is that?

Thank you to those (Donnie and Natalie Beamer, Tiffany Rolle, Urisa Reve Smith, Oscar Brandon, Oscar Matthews, Tiffanie Paige, Pamela Velez, Lesley Netter, Elisha Akram) who pledged financial support for my trip to Roatan through direct donations or purchase of my camera equipment. Here is an update on the progress we made as a group while in Honduras:

Movie Night: 70 adults and teens, 50 children
Couples Night: 36 couples
Pandy Town  Funfair: 175 children plus teens and many mothers
Women's  Conference: 250+ ladies
Teen Night: 600+
Men's Fry Hog Luncheon: 103 men
Teen Mania (1st year): 50 students daily
VBS  (day camp): 1255 children over 4 days
Other Ministries:  Visitations and presentations to the children at the children's home
                             Pastors' Leadership Seminar
                             Computers donated to various groups
School supplies donated to each child that attended day camp and to the children of
                             Pandy Town

A Truck รถบรรทุก Store in Bangkok by Ross Oscar Knight

Thursday, September 29, 2011

I walked past this man every single day that I was in the city. He drove his truck into town at 7 AM and set up shop on the side of the street. After day four I learned how to speak enough Thai to ask him about his small business and to let him know that I was a photographer looking to learn more about the Thai culture. He pointed out a picture of his daughter and late mother that he was proud to display just over his left shoulder. We shared experiences albeit performing charades to understand the meaning of some of our words. I asked him how he was able to sit for hours in the heat in a small truck with his legs crossed. The answer: 'To feed my family is why I work.' 'Doing yoga keeps me healthy.'

Ross Oscar Knight Photography Featured in Jezebel Atlanta Luxury Living Magazine

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

I'm thrilled to announce that not one but two of our weddings are featured in the fall issue of Jezebel Magazine. The first image is from the destination wedding of Charles and Elisa (January 2010 - blog 1, blog 2, blog 3) that we shot in Antigua, Guatemala. Elisa is totally one of my favorite people in the world. We are kindred spirits. Hands down Charles can speak on any subject matter you throw at him. The other wedding you will remember as a colorful fall wedding at the Decatur Courthouse, Robert and Tia (September 2010 - blog 1 and blog 2). Tre and Tia are partially responsible for getting my health situation back on track. The two of them have the most fun together of any couple I know. Ironically, Charles and Tia are currently attending the same Law School. Also, this weekend Elisa, Brandi and I will be running a half marathon and then a full marathon together in November. Pick up an issue of Jezebel today and flip to page 60!!

In Search of Light แสง (Pattaya พัทยา) by Ross Oscar Knight

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

I met the coolest couple (Thanisorn and Chanizhargan) while in Thailand by way of my friend Maitai. Thanisorn is an Interior Designer and owns a Noodle Shop in Bangkok while Chanizhargan is in school at the University. We traveled together to a beautiful island called Koh Samed เพ. The beach was full of silky (yes silky) white sand that I could just bury myself in up to my neck and be content. I ran five miles barefoot, it was so nice. One afternoon before taking a boat over to the island we ate at a restaurant overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. It was dark but I took the opportunity to capture this photo of Chanizhargan while we waited for a table.

A Life in Thailand (Dichotomy of Neighborhoods) by Ross Oscar Knight

Monday, September 26, 2011

I went walking through several neighborhoods while I was in Thailand. I met this girl at her makeshift home very close to the city near 5 star hotels and restaurants. It was interesting to see the dichotomy of of people's lives just miles apart. I'm already planning my trip back to do more shooting!

I Bask in the Bliss of Anonymity - My Vacation is to Document Culture

Friday, September 16, 2011

Some people choose to lay back and sip mai tais on vacation but I choose to document culture. Exploring a new land for me is fuel to my creative photographic journey as fresh air is to a long distance swimmer's endurance. At this moment I bask in the bliss of anonymity.

The Power Broker by Ross Oscar Knight

Cornell @ Midtown ATL

Cornell and I shot a few weeks ago in Midtown to start developing his portfolio. He is a mover and a shaker in the financial arena as well as a Morehouse Man. I decided to photograph him "street style" in the city. During the session we talked a lot about his future aspirations and I can honestly say that I was impressed. I really dig his style, how about you?

Moment for Life at the W Hotel by Ross Oscar Knight

Shawn and Rabbiyah @ The W Hotel Buckhead

Wedding Featured on TLC's "Say Yes to the Dress"

How Shawn and Rabbiyah met:

Fisk University will always bring back wonderful memories for this couple. In the fall of 1998, they registered for the same psychology class. The class met in Park Johnson Hall on the second floor and it was in this classroom where they locked eyes for the very first time. After admiring her from afar, Shawn patiently waited until the end of the semester to pursue Rabbiyah. Upon his beckoning, she decided to give him her telephone number. What began as an interesting conversation between two strangers, eventually led to a fabulous first date at a local Nashville restaurant, and the rest, as they say, was history.

Shawn and Rabbiyah never guessed attending a class together would have led to such a phenomenal union. They both set out on a narrow path many years ago, with many twists and turns personally, professionally, and spiritually, that led them to this very triumphant moment. It was part of God's strategic plan. Eleven years later, with lots of conversing, laughter, and love, they have what appears to be the perfect foundation for what will now be the rest of their lives.

One of Spelman's Elite - Ragin's Bridal Session by Ross Oscar Knight

Sunday, September 4, 2011

A few months ago my Spelman Sister, Ragin, contacted me about photographing her wedding and bridal session. I've been waiting to post these images since June to keep her dress a secret. Today, I finished shooting her wedding in St. Thomas as part of a 2-wedding 24-hr photographic marathon. Check out images from the bridal session below. You'll remember the chair from an earlier post.
