Whatever it Takes by Ross Oscar Knight | New Rochelle, NY

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

Boo..its raining outside so I made this an editing day. Thus far I've made it through three entire weddings totaling about 8,000 images. That's an image every four seconds and I still ate lunch!

While editing I came across these three photos. I was reminded of the downpour that started at the beginning of Patrice and Ron's wedding in New York. We could have thrown in the towel and shot indoors but we made a last minute decision to brave the wind and water. I'm glad because we got a lucky break for a few minutes to crawl across the rocks and capture the beautiful location. As I tell all of my clients - whatever it takes for us to get the images we envision together, we'll make it happen.

Haiti Prints Added to KNIGHT Gallery Opening Reception 9.24.10

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

The “Beauty In The Face of Destruction” Haiti series has just been added to the opening reception for the KNIGHT Gallery–only THREE DAYS away!

This exhibition by Ross Oscar Knight features multi-media works including silver museo rag, watercolor, and canvas prints. The imagery on display will evoke your senses and place you right in the center of stories of people living everyday life across the globe. Since devastation is an unfortunate but familiar chapter in our daily narrative, this never before seen series from post-earthquake Haiti is yet another opportunity to, “love what you see!”

This August, in the middle of his busiest wedding season ever, KNIGHT dropped everything and flew to Haiti to support the relief efforts. It is there, in St. Louis Du Nord, where Ross had several life-changing moments. His experience came not from the destruction and devastation, but the beauty of the country and the spirit of the people. He feels it is only fitting to give back to Haiti a token of what it has given to him, so a portion of all proceeds from Haiti portraits will be donated to aHomeInHaiti.org.

aHomeInHaiti.org is a movement of people around the world that are looking to provide permanent housing to orphans with the rebuilding of the Miriam center. The Miriam Center, located in St. Louis Du Nord, houses, educates and loves on Haitian children with cerebral palsy, severe autism, and other major life challenges–one of the only facilities of its kind in Haiti. Its current space, which is used well, is extremely overcrowded and now houses children from the earthquake. With your purchase of an art print from Haiti you will help build the largest and best refuge center for children in Haiti!

Until then, get ready to love what you see and build community through photography!

Delightful New York Engagement Session by Ross Oscar Knight

Sunday, September 5, 2010

I photographed Shezhad and Nehal's Atlanta wedding back in January so photographing them in New York (July) was like hanging out with old friends. We strolled through the park and picked up three bikes along the way. It was a delightful afternoon and I learned even more about their relationship and what they like to do for fun. Enjoy a glimpse of the shoot!

The Reality of Now by Ross Oscar Knight

Friday, September 3, 2010

2 more workshops

6 more weddings

13 more contracts

16 more flights

118 more days

Turn the clocks back...its 2011 and time to start again.

Baring my soul has connected me to my audience (you) for years and your prayers have kept me uplifted. Photography is the vehicle for my ministry.

This year has probably been the busiest and at the same time the most fulfilling of my professional career. My life is filled with time constraints and deadlines but living my dream is so rewarding. A natural high. I get light-headed just thinking about it. If I don't seize the moment now then when? Whose future may depend on my next move?

God's promise is to not place more on us than we can bear. I believe that whole-heartedly without a doubt. A few weeks ago I injured my back and I am still taking the recovery easy. This year I took on 30+ weddings when I usually average 17. I'm feeling the effects. With the opening of the gallery and our re-branding efforts I had to make sure we had enough revenue to carry us through the winter.

The reality of now is that I am not superman but a mere mortal doing God's work for as long as he will allow. My plan is not the plan that really matters, it is His plan for my life. I will continue to press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling as Paul explains in the book of Philippians. Paul explored his own life and quest for wisdom beyond his natural understanding. He sought to please God and not man.

After praying this morning I thought about many of you that visit my blog and that I communicate with through Facebook and other social media. I felt moved to type this blog and to say: Since tomorrow is not promised to us, don't wait to say or do what you are moved to do today. Years from now we could be more disappointed by what we did not choose to conquer versus what we have already accomplished.
