Almost Hit by a Bull and Shopping (ખરીદી) with The Groom – My Return to India: Day 2

Entry #2

I woke up early this morning to go running and check out the neighborhood. Usually I am pretty good with my sense of direction but as I passed through a couple of lights I was chased by a pack of dogs and then almost hit by a bull! An hour later I made it safely back to the house and everyone was worried. I went immediately to get a cell phone unlocked and bought enough minutes to last for the rest of the trip.

I accompanied Samir (the groom) and the men from his family shopping. The goal for the day was to find clothes for him to wear at the wedding. At the first place we stopped all eyes were on my camera. The staff was trying to figure out who I was and where I had come from. I even had another customer ask for my card and if I would shoot him trying on his clothes. By evening, Amruta (the bride) came to help with the final decision.

Everyone was hungry so we took an auto rickshaw to get fresh juice to drink. I had pomegranate and it was just what I needed. Across from the fruit stand we dined on delectable vegetarian sandwiches from Bombay Sandwich. What makes these sandwiches unique is that the ends of the bread are removed and the shredded cheese is placed on top instead of in the middle.

I haven’t gotten sick in a foreign country since Brazil (2005), however, I started feeling a tingle in the back of my throat. That’s when I realized I hadn’t taken my allergy medication. I determined the smog was the culprit for my watery eyes and ensuing cough. Although I struggled through the night feeling lazy from jetlag I know tomorrow will be better and full of surprises!

You have to love India! And you got to photograph a wedding there!

Cant beleive how modern the retail shops have gotten there.

Nice pics. Cant wait to see more!
