Keeping Me Honest - 3rd Quarter 2010 Check-up

Friday, July 30, 2010

In 2008 I did a post titled, "Still The Same Source of My Success." At my workshops I stress the importance of setting goals and actually achieving them. Without the stretch goals and business plan that I put together 7 years ago, my goal of leaving Corporate America to become a full-time photographer would have never been actualized.

So to keep me honest, I continue to keep up with some of my goals (quarterly) publicly as they happen. Thanks for keeping honest this year!

Some of you may be thinking that this entry is written to brag. Not completely. It's actually written to brag about where my blessings come from. Up ABOVE! I'm nothing without the vision and mission given to me every day and at every photo shoot by my spiritual guidance.I do not take lightly being able to wake up every day of my life with the realization that I am living my dream. That I have found my purpose in life. That I am doing exactly what I was made to do. And its not Photography. Its to give praise through my gifts and talents.

Feel free to share some of your goals and we will keep each other honest!

I like the fact that you have set goals. I'm reminded of a good book that says, "write the vision and make it plan". I have learned with age that if you don't set goals you will wake up one morning and realize that your dreams have not been fulfilled. You will also realize how much time you wasted on things that did not add to the fulfillment of your dreams. One thing I have learned to do even when it is difficult is spend some more time with the family. At the end of the day, they are the ones that are with you from your beginning to your end. (For most folks.) I would encourage you to just say no to somethings and take your time back. If not, you may be like myself and have to realize the importance of family through death. If we are making each other accountable, I would say these are my goals -
Finish Masters by December (working)
Put my business on legs and get out of corporate america completely(still working but progressing)
Enjoy life more (???)
Begin a Blog about a subject I like and stick to it(so far so good)
Write a book (not even close)
Publish article (slacking)

I enjoy your blog and frequent it often. Ever since your engagement photo shoot with the young couple at the hotel with the roses and family sent to me by a friend I have been intrigued with your work. Keep them goals alive. And I'd like to see where you are at the end of the 4th Qtr.

Kind of fell off the wagon but seeing your list, I need to get up dust myself and jump back on.

Thanks for the hand up!

My friend Simi sent me a link to your site and this list in particular. I just started a photography business and my husband's goal is to work along side me in a few years. Your post about your wife resonates with me very much! I hope both my kids will want to be involved someday, too. Beautiful work and I got teary-eyed when I saw Ashley + Anna's photos. So sweet, what a blessing.
