July 2008 - experience KNIGHT workshop

What does it mean to Build Community Though Photography? Bringing a diverse group of people together from around the country (and now international students) to learn about photography, each other, and what they are passionate about.

We braved the heat, the wind, and the rain to make this workshop the experience of a lifetime! Now this July class has probably come the closest to giving me a heart attack than ever before. After our 1/2 day of lecture and story telling I decided to take the class on a field trip. Although these people are from some of the largest cities around the country, they refused to walk on the side walks in Atlanta?! I broke out in a sprint across the road one time because my heart dropped when I saw one attendee checking their images standing in the middle of the road with cars approaching.

This workshop we had in attendance a Fine Arts Business Owner, a Cosmetologist, an Attorney, a Customer Service Rep, a Financial Services Rep, a Staff Assistant, a Bank Manager, a Health Care Recruiter, a Broadcast Technician, and an Elementary School Teacher. I think its important for me to list these professions so you can see that everyone that has attended our workshops thus far has careers other than full time photography. We cater the workshop to beginners, hobbyists, and non-professionals.

I was really impressed with how this class allowed me to push them to another level. There was some small resistance at first but during this class I refused to accept the words, "I don't understand" or "I think I got it." I incorporated a few new ideas (1. The One on One Challenge 2. Day 1 Break Up and Break Down) that took this experience to another level. Look out for these students to make some big moves in the future. I was amazed at their exceptional images and blessed even more by their beautiful spirits.

Hat's off to the models for being great sports while we all played Paparazzi while out in the city. They were definitely stopping traffic. Even the Mrs. KNIGHT go it on the modeling action.

Well, that's number 3! It's about time for a reunion with the other classes already.

If you are interested in attending a future experience KNIGHT workshop - email us at workshops@rossoscarknight.com.

This is great, Ross! It looks like your classes are so much fun! Hopefully one day soon I'll be able to participate.

BTW, will you post photos taken by the students in your classes? From what I can tell all of these photos were taken by you since they have your logo on them...or am I mistaken? I'd love to see the work your students produced while in your workshop.

Ross, I would not get accepted. LOL. I dont even have a decent camera. U saw my lil 'common people' Nikon. LOL. And then to upload one of my favourite images - that's a joke :) Those too are common. :( I dont have skills like that. I love to look at the art, but no equipment or eye to produce it.

Good Morning Mr. Knight,

I am the eldest born daughter of Johnny and Jessye Gipson. Yep, you guessed it that makes me Khedra's big sis lol. I must say that I have never seen her so passionate, excited, focused and faithful (other than serving God of course)than she is in this period in her life :) She got home yesterday and was damn near bouncing off the walls, telling us all about it lol!!!! Then when I saw those pictures she took . . . WOW!! You are hands down the greatest example that I have seen since my 12th grade music teacher of some who has utilize his passion and talent unselfishly to indeed change that lives of others!!! I'm not a photographer. Kudos to you Mr. Knight!!

My first time leaving a comment on the blog...:)

I am so happy/proud/excited for the 3rd class of the experience KNIGHT workshops! You all were loads of fun and talent...you all will definitely go far with your photography.

I had a great time hanging with everyone. Now, we have a friend to visit in Toronto, a friend sending us Garretts' popcorn from Chi-town, a new hair stylist, a fellow 3-day Breast cancer walker and I'm learning the "smirk"!

God has truly blessed both Ross and I with meeting new people throughout each workshop. I see Ross learning from each attendee so that he can be a more effective instructor and a better photographer. Thank you to each workshop participant for blessing my husband.

Ross, congratulations babe for reaching another one of your goals. Keep listening to God and He will direct your steps. I'm so proud of you, my husband. 143....

Team Knight! Wow! Ross, Dr. Mrs., Anna Beth, Franchon and Cliff, you all are truly blessed! Your ability to share what you know so willingly was almost overwhelming. I had a great time and will spend 90% of my time in "M" mode from now on, and thanks for that tip on spot metering. Ross you...as KRS-1 would say..."broke everything down to the very last compound!" Like Clo from Chicago i'm still coming down from my high! God bless my brother, and shout me out when you are in MD/DC.

Man on man Ross I am salivating over her in Cali. Got my new 40D last week and would absolutely LOVE to put it to the test with the awesome skills that I'm certain students get from your class. Really wish you would come to Los Angeles to do a class. *hint hint* :) But until I can make it to the ATL, I will just continue to gain inspiration from you here. Keep up the great work, as your blogs make my day!

LaDonna - We are thinking of doing at least one of the fall or winter workshops out of state. Cali is on the list of possibilities.

Well HALLELUJAH, I'm gonna have to go into my prayer closet on that one. :D Or maybe if I just sell you on the weather during fall/winter, I won't even need to bother God about it, LoL. The temperature is still in the mid 70's during that time, AND there's beaches. Come on Ross, you know you'd love to shoot at the beach right? :) Hmmm, should I put in my application now just in case?

KNIGHT said...

I do love the beach but remember, I grew up in Florida. I have been gone for 11 years and I get my fill of the sun on some of my destination weddings. However, I would love to come where it never rains.

Yes--please come to Cali. I have a 17-year old son who's very mature and is interested in photography and video production. He and I visit your blog regularly--you, your work, your wife and others give us great inspiration in many facets of life--spiritually and academically.

So, if you can make it to Cali--my son, Ashton, will definitely be eagerly hoping to be accepted.

For you faithful and new comer bloggers out there, dude really enjoys what he does! You can't fake having this much fun and producing the work he does.

Everyone is blessed always, but some of us are TRULY BLESSED to know what we are called to be. If you haven't signed up for the workshop... what are you waiting for?

You only have one lifetime, experience it the KNIGHT way.
